Meng Yangyang 孟陽陽 (1983, China) 1983 Born in Chongqing 2006 BA Degree in Oil Painting Department, Sichuan Fine Arts Institute Continuing MA degree in Oil Painitng Department, Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, Chongqing, China Yangyang is part of the first generation of Chinese artists whose legacy, unlike that of their tutors, is not one of Maoist authoritarianism. Rather they have emerged under the influence of a China in the midst of one of its most rapid periods of growth and transformation. The West its cultural and economic influence characterized the youth of Yangyang’s contemporaries, and have resulted in a very difference artistic style which reflects a new and much altered nation. Having studied at the Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, Chinas foremost artistic academy, Yangyang has been brought into direct contact with the leading painters of her day. Resident faculty include the artists, Guo Jin, Guo Wei, He Sen and Zhong Biao. It is under the latters direction that she has spent the last six years studying and painting. While the two artists are remarkably different in both style and in composition, the element of fantasy that is at play in their work unites these two dissimilar artists. |
